Sodalite (var: Hackmanite) (rare)

This is one of only a handful of Hackmanite gems that I've had to offer from Myanmar recently, and the quality is about as good as I've seen in terms of clarity. Most of the Sodalites we've had from Myanmar over the years are translucent at best, but THIS stone is incredibly CLEAN! The gem variety of Sodalite is called Hackmanite. This gem has an "Oval" cut and is nearly eye clean which is great for the material as most of them are never this clean. It's nearly impossible to find completely clean stones unless they are exceptionally small, and even though this stone isn't huge, it's still very good sized for what it is. This particular stone shows a nice orange fluorescence under LW UV light. This material is retailing for HIGH numbers now across the board, and you simply can't get your hands on gems with this kind of clarity. I saw one of these stones offered at the Tucson Show this year for $2,000 per carat for reference. Sodalite is a very durable stone and that's why it is so popular among dealers and collectors alike because you can actually set it in jewelry, and it's fairly easy to cut and polish.
