Spessartine (fine crystals)

Item Description

This is a gorgeous miniature sized group of fine quality, very well-formed, lustrous, deep wine red colored crystals of Spessartine Garnet, free of matrix. The crystals show an excellent combination of dodecahedral and trapezohedral faces. If you look closely, a couple of the crystals are oddly "hollow", showing slight skeletal or "hoppered" growth, which is rare for Garnet in my experience. The largest individual crystal measures 1.7 cm across. With strong backlighting, you can get some color the shine through, and the crystals are not opaque, but they need a lot of light to see the internal red hue. Overall, the piece is in great condition, and it truly looks better in person than the photos might indicate. Some of the best red Spessartine crystals in the world have come out of Pakistan since the 1990s, and this piece is a great example of said material. Priced at $950 retail in our inventory.
