Item Description
A beautiful rich orange colored Spessartine Garnet crystal from the famous Nani Hill locality in Tanzania. The strong hue is due to manganese content in the crystal, as the more iron-dominant Spessartines have a darker red hue. These crystals are notably good sized, not just for Spessartine, but any Garnet, as crystals that exceed 2 cm are fairly rare in nature, and they are typically dark and opaque, but this one is gemmy when backlit and the color is a glowing mandarin hue. The piece is crystallized on all sides, showing fine trapezohedral faces with good luster. There is a bit of attached Mica, but the piece is nearly a complete "floater". A very nice example of these classic Spessartines.
