Item Description

A fascinating and highly unusual old spessartine garnet and quartz specimen. Blocky, etched, translucent, lustrous, cherry-red spessartines are aesthetically perched on a strange mounded matrix of intergrown, graphic-looking tiny quartz points and spessartines. Schorl sections are embedded in the base. One larger face is sharp, resembling a spessartine dodecahedron face. These spessartines resemble the recent finds of heavily etched specimens from the Navegadora claim of Brazil. This striking old-time piece has to date to the early 1980s, when these first reached the Western markets. Hunza spesartines are VERY RARE and the piece could be from Shengus or the Shigar Valley. Ex Bill Larson & his Pala International Garnet Collection - which was long on the display at the Fallbrook store in the San Diego area.
