Spessartine, Schorl & Albite on DT Smoky Quartz (old CA classic)

Item Description

Classic and showy old-time small cabinet combination from the famous Little Three Mine. A gemmy, partially doubly terminated smoky quartz crystal is nicely flanked on one side with a 2.3 cm section of a highly desirable, gemmy, vivid orange spessartine garnet crystal and a cluster of cleavelandite albite blades. The other side aesthetically hosts a 1.2 x 1.0 cm schorl section. This well-known locale has produced some of the North America's finest spessartine as well as (less commonly) natural blue topaz crystals and excellent tourmaline, schorl and smoky quartz specimens. The styrofoam base dates this very fine old-timer to the Louis Spalding collecting era of the 1960s and 1970s. See the 2002 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 33, No. 5.
