Item Description

A very cute and RARE gemmy, bifurcating, cherry-red spessartine garnet thumbnail from the 2003 find at this well-known locale. Quartz is RARE from here and this piece hosts seven aesthetically scattered intergrown doubly terminated crystals. The brilliant luster crystal has unbelievable dense etched stepped-growth faces on all sides. This outstanding combination crystal has dramatic 360-degree viewability under bright light! Every turn and tilt highlights another densely stepped-growth area of the crystal. The crystal GLOWS, when backlit. Complete all-around and a pristine floater. An excellent article in the 2016 issue of Rocks & Minerals by John White, former Curator of Gems and Minerals at the Smithsonian provides an in-depth examination of this fantastic etched spessartine crystal phenomenon at the Navegadora claim.
