Item Description

This is a very lustrous and sparkling example of the dark red sphalerite crystals that miners in the 1970s and 1980s called "ruby jack" for the red-brown-yellow color tones you see in strong light. At first, it does look jet black, but strong light reveals color within. It has fabulous luster and crystals to 1 inch in size. Donated by Donald and Gloria Olson to the MINDAT auction. Probably older material, but also some did come out in more modern mining in the early 2000s and after, although this looks older to the eye.
