Item Description

Sphalerite from Colorado is not often seen in faceted gems. This particular stone shows a very distinctive golden hue with a greenish overtone which is one of the characteristic colors from this locality. The stone was cut by Robert Heath and is only very very slightly included which is rare for this locality. Truth be told, most Sphalerite gems from this locality have some sort of inclusions and are rarely seen in totally eye clean gems. My best guess is that this piece came from the Commodore Mine, but it could be from the Bachelore Mine. The cut on the stone is called "Modified Cut Corner Checkerboard Brilliant Square". Hard to find in toda's market, and if you collect U.S. gemstones or custom cut rarities, don't miss out on this one.
