Bulgaria is probably the best active region producing gem quality Sphalerite in the world right now. Some of the finest quality green, yellow and orange Sphalerite is found in the Madan Region of Bulgaria. This particular gem is a very good sized stone with a fantastic "modified round brilliant" cut. The stone shows a vibrant mixture of yellow and greenish-yellow hues, but the high refractive index of Sphalerite creates another level of beauty as there are tiny "rainbow" like reflections that can be seen when the stone is rotated in the light. This stone has some slight inclusions, but Sphalerites are rarely completely clean, and this is one of the larger gems that we've offered from the locality in some time. A cool collector's gem, and well worth the starting bid.
