Item Description

Lustrous, jet-black, sphalerite crystals to 1.0 cm encrust the curved vug in massive sphalerite and ankerite crystals matrix on this classic, old-timer from the famous Brownley Hill Mine of Cumbria. The scattered splashes of gemmy, red rubyjack are a nice accent, as is the field of brown ankerite rhombs at the base of the piece. Mine records at this historic mine date from 1735 to abandonment in 1936. Alston Moor mining evidence dates to 1130! Showy, excellent and rich material from the Robert Whitmore Collection.
