Item Description

A beautiful old time specimen of classic red "Ruby Jack" Sphalerite from the famous locality at Joplin, Missouri. Dozens of "jewel"-like sharp, GEM/gemmy, rich orange-red color modified crystals of Sphalerite sit atop a layer of drusy sugar grey Quartz on matrix. The largest Sphalerite measures up to 5 mm. Good quality and beatuiful considering that Sphalerite is one of the few transparent sulfides out there. Great old classic material from the tri-state region. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ).
