Item Description

An exceptional and aesthetic sphalerite and quartz combination from the historic and extinct mines of the Joplin Field. A 2.8 cm, isometric, sharp, lustrous, dark rubyjack sphalerite crystal is dramatically set on the very 3-dimensional matrix of massive sphalerite. The sphalerite is richly dusted with tiny sparkly golden chalcopyrite crystals, adding much pizzazz. The sculptural matrix is nearly enveloped with very glassy quartz points, adding even more contrast and character. Quartz of this quality is RARE from this famous District. Part of one side of the sphalerite is contacted, but is certainly only a modest detraction to this artistic and RARE old-time combination. A classic sphalerite with rare quartz association.
