Spinel is one of those gems that comes in a great range of colors. Most people are familiar with the Ruby Spinels for their eye-catching color. This gem is an attractive, good sized, deep red color, "Step Oval" cut gemstone. The stone has visible inclusions, but a Spinel over 5 carats is certainly rare! Whenever a gem is over 1 carat in weight, it is considered to be top collector quality, so this stone is well above the standard for a collector gem with regard to size. It is difficult to find superb quality Spinels, because of political upheaval in southeast Asia. It appears that these stones will soon be very very hard to come across and the days of the good Ruby Spinels may be dwindling. Valued at $402.75 high retail.
