Item Description

Spinel is one of those stones that doesn't get the credit it deserves. It's quite durable, comes in a wide range of colors and has a higher refractive index than Tanzanite or Tourmaline. Many years ago it was incredibly difficult to get your hands on a good quality faceted Spinel over 1 carat. Once material started pouring out of Mogok in the early 1990s, it changed the landscape of the gem world. Over the years, we've seen some really pretty Ruby Spinels come out of Mogok, but a large percentage of Spinels out there are not red. Here we have a gorgeous blue Spinel with slight lavender overtones that was mined circa 2005. This "Emerald" cut gem is brilliant in any kind of light, and like a lot of Spinels has an metallic quality to it. In my experience, Spinels like this will show a slight color change or color shift from indoor lighting to sunlight, and this stone looks especially nice in sunlight. There are some VERY very slight inclusions, but if you were to set this gem into jewelry, you wouldn't even notice them. The retail price on this gem is $510.00.
