Item Description

The historic and famous mines at Guanajuato are renowned for acanthite and silver sulfosalt species, but interestingly, very few native silver specimens have been preserved. Probably because pure silver was too valuable. This is a showy, dense, thumbnail nest of spinel-twinned, silver wires coated with acanthite and probably sparkly, polysbasite. Spinel-twinned silver is quite rare from here and very few wires retain their bright silvery patina. This is undoubtably old-time material. Ex Howard Belsky Collection. Howard started as a mineral dealer at age 13 in 1972, became a sophisticated dealer and died tragically at age 28 in 1987. His collection recently became available to us through his family.
