Item Description

A fine single, doubly-terminated, thick, striated prism of light yellow to colorless, lustrous, Spodumene from this well-known area in Afghanistan. The piece displays wonderfully, and is fairly gemmy inside. It's a complete "floater", but there is a contact on the back, so it's not 100% pristine. Hard to photograph/video, and better in person. Good gem crystals of Spodumene are only found in three places in the world with any frequency: Afghanistan, Brazil and San Diego County, California. Very little if anything comes out of California these days and the Brazilian material is on the decline in terms of production, so the only place where one can buy good gem Spodumenes these days is Afghanistan. A lovely, "sword"-shaped crystal of this classic material. Weight is 185.3 grams.
