Item Description

A hard to find Spodumene from the famous Foote Mine in western North Carolina. The piece features several thick, layered, blocky, soft olive green color, prismatic crystals in parallel growth on Quartz matrix. The edges of the crystals can be seen altering to Eucryptite. It is one of the very few pieces of this material that I have seen, and is certainly worthwhile for any collector of this material. The piece comes from the collection of noted Colorado geologist Allen Heyl, for whom the species Aheylite was named. Allen purchased the piece in 1986 from the Rocksmiths who obtained the piece from the collection of Dr. Richard R. Bower. According to Allen's label (specimen #3627), the piece was collected in the 1960's, and predated Bower from the collection on J. F. Ward. Great pedigree accompanies this historic specimen of this highly sought after material.
