Item Description

Indonesia has some of the finest, and most well-preserved Coral fossils that I have seen from any locality. The coral reefs along these highly volcanic islands were preserved by when covered by volcanic sediments from eruptions long ago. The island of Sumatra has incredible depostis of rare and ornate suite of fossils from approximately 20 million years ago during the Miocene Age. Through a combination of processes the full pattern and character of the original coral life forms have been preserved in great detail. This stone is a superb example of said material, and is rather meticulous showing the beautiful patterns on the Spone Coral now preserved in sold volcanic remains. This "Oval Cabochon" stone is one of the few pieces of this material that I have had to offer.
