Item Description

I would say that Enstatite is a fairly rare collectors stone, as most crystals you'll find are fairly dark (sometime even opaque), so it's hard to find transparent pieces that are suitable for cutting. Add in that the fact that only a small percentage of this material can be cut into "star" gems, and you have something desirable and rare. This "Oval Cabochon" cut gem is a god sized stone for the material, but what really counts is that it shows a beautiful 4-ray star when viewed under strong light. Additionally, the color is a bright yellow-green, which is RARE for Enstatite in general as most stones are either orange or brown typically. These stones are created when thin, fibrous inclusions are oriented inside of the Enstatite crystal at the correct angle and cut and polished properly to show off the "legs" of the star. When these inclusions are numerous enough to make the stone translucent or opaque, they allow light to be reflected in such a way that a star floats across the top of the stone with movement. It is an amazing phenomenon that is only seen in a few gems around the world. The actual "legs" of the star in this stone are rather sharp, with very little in the way of breaks and excellent consistency throughout. A superb quality rare gem for any collector.
