Item Description

A superb quality and very rarely seen example of Staurolite from Rubelita, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This crystal is one of, if not THE sharpest and most lustrous examples I've seen from this locality. Granted, I've only seen a few of them, but this piece is notably better in terms of smooth faces and only a tiny bit of surface etching. The piece is a complete "floater" as it's doubly-termianted with no notable damage. The color is a deep reddish-brown, and the piece is essentially opaque for all intents and purposes. Interestingly this is a single UN-twinned example, which is also rare, as virtually every other specimen I've seen from this locality is intergrown to form an "x"-shaped twin. A great opportunity for a thumbnail collector or an admirer of Brazilian minerals to pick up this impressive single crystal for your collection. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #3049).
