Sharp stephanite crystals on native arsenic and calcite are rare from the historic mines at St. Andreasberg. A 5 mm pair of sharp, intergrown, twinned stephanite crystals is jauntily perched atop the hefty for the size mounded thumbnail matrix of stephanite, classic reniform shaped native arsenic and calcite. Pink calcite fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2181 and acquired on November 22, 1961. Kay assembled an important suite of classics and rarities from this famed district. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). See the Mineralogical Record St. Andreasberg Special Issue, May-June, 2017, Vol. 48, No. 3. The is piece undoubtedly dates to the 1800s, as the last mine closed in 1910.
