Item Description

Superb group of Stephanites from Freiberg, which is one of the most famous silver producing districts in the history of minerals. The metallic, well-formed Stephanite crystals reach 9 mm in length, and the aesthetics of the cluster are outstanding. Stephanite was named after noted mining engineer and mineral collector, Archduke Stephan Franz Victor von Habsburg-Lothringen. This is the historic locality for such crystals, and the specimen here is like something out of an old textbook. Good specimens of Stephanite from Freiberg rarely available these days. Acquired from Al McGuinness, this was formerly in the collection of E. Lindemann of Hamburg. #3955 in Kay's collection. valued $2500 easily, if not more. THIS IS A SPECIAL PIEDCE, the likes of which is simply not on the market.
