Item Description

This piece was personally collected by Richard Kosnar in November of 1969 when the Interstate 80 Roadcut was coming across New Jersey and cut into some trap rock deposits that yielded some attractive zeolites and associated species. Most of the pieces to come out of this roadcut were Prehnites, some of very fine quality, but there were some actual zeolites like Stilbite, Heulandite, Chabazite, Natrolite, etc. that were found. This particular piece features sharp, lustrous, well-formed, beige colored blades of Stilbite measuring up to 2.2 cm with minor associated green Prehnite and white acicular crystals of Laumontite. The piece resembles specimens of the nearby New Street Quarries, because the roadcut ran right next to New Street during the 1969 and 1970. The specimen comes with a note from Rich Kosnar's collection indicating when and where it was found.
