Item Description

A lovely old time example of the classic trap rock specimens from New Jersey. This piece came labeled as coming from "Paterson", and it's most likely from the Upper New Street Quarry, but it's possibly from the Prospect Park Quarry, which technically is not in Paterson, but in the neighboring borough. A lot of Prospect Park specimens were labeled as coming from "Paterson" in the day. Fine tan colored "sheaves" of Stilbite measuring up to 1.3 cm are associated with beautiful yellow-green spherical and "clamshell"-shaped Prehnites sitting on white/colorless Calcite on basalt matrix. Very little damage, and a very attractive association specimen of this iconic material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#636). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
