Item Description

This obscure Alabama locale is noted for a variety of uncommon to rare phosphate species, mostly collected in the 1970s. A well-placed 4.5 cm crust is composed entirely of striking radial sprays of gemmy and lustrous, beautiful lilac and colorless orthorhombic strengite blades. There is also yellow Cacoxenite on the piece. The vuggy blocky gossan matrix adds character. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7228 and acquired from Ron Bentley in March 1974. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). A very rich, rare and large example of the species and locale.
