Item Description

Mineral specimens are rare from the long extinct strontianite mines in the Ahlen area. This is an aesthetic, sculptural solid cluster of upright, glassy, translucent, variably-sized strontianite blades. The large crystals were contacted against the roof of the vug. The largest undamaged blade is about 2.5 cm. The frontal views are in good shape, with only a bit of periphery wear. The back of the piece is contacted. White fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4642, previously in the Scott Williams Collection and acquired from Scott as a gift in 1966. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A rare, showy and solid strontianite from the locale.
