Item Description

This is a classic association specimen from this well known locality in west Germany. This mine had been active up until 2007, and was mined during the 20th Century mostly for Barite. This piece features a few sharp, well-formed, translucent, very soft yellow colored crystals of Strontianite measuring up to 7 mm sitting on attractive crystals of bladed pinkish Barite crystals associated with brassy colored Chalcopyrite crystals. It's an unusual piece as we haven't seen many Strontianites on Barite from this mine. Very cool for the locality, and hard to find these days. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11085). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
