Item Description

Glassy yellow, sharp, sulfur crystals, to 6 mm, with microcrystalline calcite line a sculptural vug in the 2.5 inch drill core section from this obscure sulfur mine in West Texas. Complete all-around, the drill core clearly shows its origins as it cut into a pocket of sulfur deep in the ground. Fascinating. Geologists during the 1970s and 1980s used to keep these rare core pockets of sulfur when found, and give them as gifts around the area here in West Texas. In practice, they are almost impossible to find on the market for this reason. After all, nobody really could have afforded to collect them as specimens per se, not when spending thousands of dollars per drill. Ex Al Kidwell collection and from the Dudley Rainey collection in 1981. A fine Texas sulfur and RARE from the locale. Especially in a good size, this unusually complete specimen is both a fine specimen and a really interesting desk paperweight.
