Oregon Sunstone is one of the great U.S. gems, and doesn't get enough attention in my mind for what it is. Although faceted stones are well-known, still think they're under-appreciated by collectors all over. The rarity and value lies in the fact that this is gem quality Feldspar that can range in color from blue-green to red with a large variation of color in between. Most gem quality Feldspar is fairly devoid of color, but the good stones from Oregon are about as vivid as it get. The distinctive feature of Oregon Sunstone is the internal "shiller" that is seen in many gems, which is a shimmer caused by internal metallic copper inclusions. Some people consider the finest Oregon Sunstone gems to be those with the most brilliant shiller, while others appreciate gems with varying degrees of metallic brilliance. This "Brilliant Oval" cut gem shows wild coloration with a predominantly coppery-red hue, but has flashes of blue-green near the girdle and a few spots of champagne Sunstone as well. The "shiller" on this gem is STRONG with notable lines running across and through the gem when it's face up. A great gem of this unique and eye-catching natural/untreated material.
