Sunstone (Gem Feldspar)

A lot of people are familiar with Sunstone, the gem quality Feldspar that is colored often by either iron oxide (Hematite, Goethite etc.) or copper inclusions. Several years ago there was a discovery of some beautiful Sunstones in Tanzania which feature notably coarse grained brilliant red inclusions of Hematite. Typically, the inclusions seen in most Sunstone gems are very fine, and almost make the stones "cloudy". The beauty of the Tanzanian material is that you can still see the optic clarity of the Feldspar, as the individual inclusions of Hematite are well-separated within. This beautiful "oval brilliant" cut stone features a nearly colorless host of transparent Feldspar filled with distinct inclusions of reddish-orange Hematite suspended inside. The stone is very well-cut and looks beautiful indoors and in sunlight. A must have stone for any fan of inclusion gems or worldwide Feldspars.
