Item Description

One of the most exceptional things I have seen from the United States is Sunstone from Oregon. This material comes in a myriad of colors ranging from yellow, orange, red, green and even blue in rare cases. Aside from the the extremely rare blue variety, the most hard to find color of this material is red, but multicolor gems of this material re exceptionally rare as well. This stone is a superb quality, rare, nearly eye clean "Modified Mumble" cut gem. When viewed through the pavillion, this stone has a beautiful rich red color in the center surrounded by a slight green "rind" (very similar to Watermelon Tourmaline) and "champagne" hues around the edges, making it a unique, attractive, and highly sought after multicolor Sunstone from Oregon. Face up, the color is a beautiful red, with slight "champagne" and green highlights. It is not very common to find Oregon Sunstone with any strong color, as over 90% of this material displays only the "champagne" hue, so to find any hint of color is a big deal, let alone an intense pocket of color like the one in this gem. Many of the stones from this area have what is called a "shiller" which is a shimmer in the stone created by micro inclusions of metallic Copper. This stone has a very slight amount of shiller and looks very nice in any kind of light. These gems are becoming very difficult to find in any size or quantity for reasonable prices on the market, so don't miss out on this one. This stone was cut by Brett Kosnar in April of 2010. Retail value on this gem is $1250. A fantastic and beautiful stone of this classic US material.
