Item Description

Incredibly gemmy and glassy, tiny dark cherry-red, dogtooth, rhodochrosite scalenhedrons totally cover a large 2.2 cm calcite rhomb and much of the manganite matrix. The scintillating gemmyness and intense red color saturation just explode into yours eyes. Few rhodos from anywhere have this amazing color intensity and gemmyness. This gorgeous piece is not from the famed Nchwaning II MIne, but rather is an older piece, probably from the 1960s or early 70s, from the Hotazel Mine. The rhodo-covered rhomb is complete all-around and is pristine. Yes, a bit of periphery wear is noted, but it would really liven up any exhibit case and it is an outstanding and rare combination representation of the species and locality. Ex Jaime Bird Collection and comes with a 1960s - early 70s-era Lidstrom's label. Walt Lidstrom died in 1976. Valued at $2000, for rarity and quality. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!! The photos do not do justice to the brilliance and gemmyness of these crystals. It is like RED SUGAR
