Item Description

Rare today, a matrix serandite with the top top color! Stunning rich orange color, beautiful translucence and luster on these two outstanding serandite crystals jauntily set atop the blocky combination matrix on this exceptional specimen from the famed Poudrette quarry. This is about as rich of an orange serandite hue, as we have seen from here. It is from the famous late 1980s glory hole finds here, never repeated. The impressive large 3.0 cm crystal is terminated but partially contacted, with modest bruising. The smaller crystal has a contacted or tectonically re-healed termination, so is technically complete although it looks rough. The sculptural blocky, partially euhedral microcline matrix hosts a number of classic Mont Saint-Hilaire species: aegirine needles to 2.0 cm; glassy colorless Analcime crystals on one side; scattered masses of black Birnessite, a complex Mn-oxide; and scattered red and yellow patches of Manganoneptunite. Ex Francesco Bedogne Colllection # 465. Dr. Bedogne, 1942-2012, was a well-known Italian mineralogist, prolific author, field collector and collector. Read his biography in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=118. A choice and showy combination with EXCEPTIONAL serandite crystals. The crystals GLOW, when back lit! valued $2000-2500
