Item Description

Splendent, golden-bright, lightly iridescent and striated, flat-lying sylvanite crystals are festooned on the colorful, contrasting, lavender fluorite matrix. The other side is as richly covered as the front, but with smaller crystals. Sylvanite and fluorite are an uncommon combination from this well-known district and this is a larger and richly representative specimen. The piece is probably from the 1800s if not the early 1900s, from this most classic US locale. A highly desirable example from the famous mines at Cripple Creek. It is BETTER IN PERSON by far, showing characteristic patterning of the species. Valued at $1500-ish for richness and combination. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection.
