Item Description

Sylvanite is a signature gold-silver-telluride species from Colorado, but is VERY RARE from this obscure and old mine. Large crystals are only known from a few locales, of which the most historic are in the now defunct old mining districts of Romania and in Colorado. Seldom do you see such large crystals, in particular from Colorado. Crystals up to 1.0 cm in size, are superbly displayed in three radiated sprays on the quartz-crystal covered matrix. The spearpoint spray is 1.9 cm across. The lathes and spears have striking golden-metallic, peacock-blue and magenta iridescence. Old-time, outstanding and very rare material for the locale, from the University of Arizona Collection. Valued at $800-1000 for rarity, richness and large crystal size.
