What more could you want in a thumbnail tanzanite? This is a gorgeous crystal with all 3 colors of the natural trichroic crystal present and strongly showing down different axes of view; riveting glassy luster that is truly top of the game; incredible clarity and transparency; and a fullsized thumbnail at 16.57 carats. from the noted thumbnail collection of Marilyn Dodge. As a specimen, I value it highly at $2500-3000 and in fact I sold it 3 years ago for $2000; and obtained/exchanged it back recently, which is why I can now offer it at risk of getting a price lower than what I myself paid to begin with. Superb crystal, from one of the country's really well-noted competitive thumbnail collections. As a pure bonus, the gem rough value here is considerable at $500 per carat in finished wholesale gems - all you have to do is heat-treat this to make it the deeper jewelry-desired crazy-blue color, and cut away. It should have a relatively high yield in stones from the large central zones and return more than the specimen value alone might.
