Item Description

A true classic from the world famous Herodsfoot Mine in Cornwall. Most collectors are quite familiar with this famous old material that dates back to the 1800s. This locality is best known for its outstanding "cogwheel" Bournonite specimens, but a close second might just be the gorgeous crystals of Tetrahedrite which are coated by iridescent golden Chalcopyrite. This classic combination is best known from this locality. You can see small sections on this specimen where the underlying silvery Tetrahedrite is exposed beneath the beautiful Chalcopyrite. The largest crystal measures 9 mm, and the accenting white Quartz and tan Siderite discs make for a great touch. Very little damage, and difficult to photograph, but it's better in person. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3354). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
