Item Description

Thomsenolite dates back to 1868 and is named after Hans Peter Jorgen Julius Thomsen who has a chemistry professor at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. This is a classic specimen of this rare halide from the type locality featuring a lattice-like formation filled with tiny gem quality crystals of colorless Thomsenolite. You really need a strong loupe or a microscope to see them clearly, but each little cavity is filled with crystals. I have to believe that the parallel growth lines of the piece would suggest that this is some sort of "cast" / perimorph after a preexsiting mineral. Certainly RARE an unusual! If you collect rarities, or if you've ever wanted a piece of the interesting and unusual mineral, don't miss out on a chance to obtain a well-crystallized example from this historic deposit. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8190). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
