Thomsonite with Prehnite

Item Description

Thomsonite is one of the most sought after and valuable zeolites from the New Jersey trap rocks. This piece is a rarely seen and fine quality example from the historic Lower New Street Quarry in Paterson. This piece hosts several radiating groups of off-white colored Thomsonite measuring up to 8 mm across, which are associated with slightly gemmy, yellowish colored "balls" of Prehnite, which also measure up to 8 mm on basalt matrix. If you look closely, you can see small very pale green crystals of Datolite, which are sitting atop chalky white Laumontite. The label accompanying the piece states that there is minor Hematite on the specimen as well. It's a wonderful example of these elusive and sought after Thomsonites from this well-known quarry in Northern New Jersey. The piece comes from the collection of Gerry Morvell, and is accompanied by a dealer label that states it's from the Sidebottom collection (#167).
