Tinzenite is a rare member of the Axinite Group, and the specimens from the Molinello Mine in Italy are among the best in the world. Much of this small cabinet piece is composed of intergrown Tinzenite, but the piece develops a nice, open pocket graced by 7 mm, bladed crystals that have a bright, shiny luster and an even more brilliant, deep orange color. Molinello, a small manganese mine, is famous as the type locality for rare and unusual Mn, As, V species. Yet, even among these well-known brethren, the mine remains known for producing some of the brightest and most attractive Tinzenites around. Overall, this is a very good specimen of this singular and beautiful species, and they are highly valued when they turn up in old collections. Formerly in the extensive collection of W & A Cook.
