Item Description

This well-known Austrian locale in mineralized clefts of amphibolite is famed for large titanite crytals to 7 cm (MINDAT). Two classic, lustrous, textbook twinned tabular crystals are aesthetically set on the unusual large matrix. The green crystals, to 2.8 cm, are doubly terminated. Some crystal faces are very glassy and gemmy, while others are included with chlorite. The 3-dimensional matrix is composed solidly of intergrown, chlorite-coated adularia crystals, except for one 2.8 cm, doubly terminated uncoated crystal! Formerly in the A. Wachtler Collection from Bolanzo and found in 1954, according to a note on the back of his label. Ex Francesco Bedogne Colllection # 385. Dr. Bedogne, 1942-2012, was a well-known Italian mineralogist, prolific author, field collector and collector. Read his biography in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=118. Classic titanites on an uncommon large combination matrix from this well-known locale.
