Item Description

This is the only specimen that we've had to offer from this locality, and it's the only matrix piece that I have seen. This small cabinet sized piece is a rarely seen specimen from an undisclosed locality in the remote Newberry Mountains of Nevada featuring a very sharp, well-formed, textbook, colorless Topaz crystal measuring 7 mm sitting on the side of a prismatic, thick, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, Smoky Quartz crystal sitting on light beige colored Microcline crystal matrix. A couple of smaller secondary Topaz crystals can be seen on the side of the Smoky Quartz crystal, but they are not as pronounced as the main Topaz. The piece actually sits quite beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay. A wonderful rare locality specimen and it's in superb condition, with no major damage anywhere. The piece comes with a label from Cal Graeber that states it was collected in 1985 by Maury Morgenstein. Priced in the inventory at $900. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
