Item Description

Please note that this piece was labeled as coming from "Annaberg", Saxony, but it's most likely from the Tin Mine in ALTENBERG, Saxony, Germany. It's very similar to other Altenberg pieces we've seen over the years. This is a fine quality, and rarely seen crystallized example of the rare prismatic / columnar crystals of stark yellow Topaz (var: "Pyknite"). This particular piece is a fairly rich sample of this elusive material loaded with attractive yellow color thin prismatic crystals of Pyknite are intergrown with thin layers of Quartz Mica (most likely "Zinnwalidte"). The largest Topaz group measures 4.1 cm long. These are rarely available on the market, and certainly worth picking up if you collect old German classic, or worldwide Topaz specimens. Valued at $750. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2394). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A hard to find and unusual German classic from the famous locality.
