Item Description

Old Russian Topaz specimens were the standard for the species for decades. These classic blue crystals were the finest known representations of their respective species throughout Europe and the rest of mineral collecting world. It wasn't until specimens from places like Brazil and Pakistan were discovered many years later that the Russian pieces had been surpassed in terms of size and quality, but they are still highly prized by collectors today for their scarcity on the market and the fact that they are iconic examples of this well-known species. This small cabinet specimen features several, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, soft blue colored Topaz crystals measuring up to 1.5 cm long associated with a thick, blocky, brownish-beige colored single crystal of Microcline measuring 3.0 cm and a few rich Smoky Quartz crystals plus bladed white Albite to form a lovely display specimen. The largest Topaz is unusually compressed (almost tabular) in habit, which is rarely seen in this material. A couple of the smaller Topaz crystals are virtually WATER CLEAR and look beautiful up close. Very little damage of note that I can see with the naked eye. It's not easy to get all four species together on the same specimen from Murzinka, and this piece would make a great addition to any pegmatite suite or a collection of worldwide gem crystal association specimen. Priced at $1,400 in the inventory.
