Tourmaline

Tourmaline is well known for its wide variety of colors. Nigerian Tourmaline is a great example of how rich and saturated Tourmalines can get. Nigerian material is some of my favorite of all Tourmalines for this reason. You do not see many of these gems on the market, especially with color like this stone. A lot of what Nigeria has produced over the last 20 years has been on the pink to red side of the spectrum, and blue-green gems like this are few and far between. The gem shows a strong blue-green color face up. The stone has nearly eye clean clarity with a wonderful "Modified Emerald Brilliant" cut. Keep in mind that Tourmaline is classified as a "Type 3" gemstone, as inclusions are almost always present, and accepted by dealers and collectors, so when you find a nearly clean stone like this, it's a real treat. For some collectors, this particular shade of Tourmaline is regarded as the most desirable, but considering that Tourmaline literally comes in every color of the rainbow, there will always be a debate on which color is the best.
