Item Description

Maine was the first gem producing state in the U.S.. The famous Tourmalines are some of the most sought after Tourmalines from the United States. Long before the pegmatite localities in San Diego County, California were producing anything, the various pegmatites in Maine were producing fine Tourmaline gems. Here we have a beautiful very pale blue-green (virtually colorless) gem which was cut from a piece of rough which mined by Dean McCrillis in the early 1970's. The piece of rough was a gift to Richard Kosnar in 1983, but the stone was faceted a few years ago. The stone is nearly eye clean (very often the material from Maine has some slight inclusions, so this is very clean for the material) with a "Round Brilliant" cut from Mount Mica. These gems are prized by collectors and dealers alike, and this stone would make a nice addition to a Tourmaline suite, a collection of U.S. gemstones, or even a collection of gemstones from Maine.
