Tourmaline (great color)

This is some of the most famous and well known Tourmaline from the United States. Long before the pegmatite localities in San Diego County, California, the various pegmatites in Maine were producing some of the most sought after, vivid colors of Tourmaline in the world. This gem is from a piece of rough that was mined by Dean McCrillis in the early 1970's. The piece of rough was a gift to Richard Kosnar and was recently faceted into the gem you see before you. This stone is a beautiful, rich blue color (with a slight green overtone), very slighly included (very often the material from Maine has some slight inclusions), gemstone with a "Trillion" cut from this spectacular New England locality. These gems are prized by collectors and dealers alike, and would make a great addition to a Tourmaline suite, a collection of U.S. gemstones, or even a collection of gemstones from Maine.
