Item Description

This is a remarkable specimen of fine quality Turquoise from this historic jade/nephrite mining area in Poland. The piece is filled with beautiful, almost organic/arborescent formations comprising gorgeous greenish-blue colored botryoidal aggregates of Turquoise on host rock matrix. The Turquoise looks wonderful when you hold the piece in your hand, but I honestly feel that the best viewing experience is under magnification, as the little "balls" are so distinct and perfect. We've never had a piece of this material to offer, so it's unquestionably the best example of the material that we've ever had to offer. If you love phosphates, old historic mineral specimens or unique pieces from esoteric localities, don't miss out on this alluring specimen from this well-known locality. This specimen has a few labels accompanying it (one from the Alex Franz Collection, and another from the great Dr. Friedrich Krantz Collection of Bonn), which refer to the locality as "Steino" placing it in "Schlesien". The Schlesien term refers to modern day Silesia in Poland. The piece is probably at least 100 years old, because Dr. Friedrich Krantz died in 1926, so even if it was acquired at the end of his life, it was still a century ago. Valued around $3,000-$4,000 retail for the historic value and immense scarcity on the market.
