Item Description

Mineral specimens are RARE from this obscure Swiss valley and this is a highly unusual and rare style of quartz from the locale. This artistic large specimen is composed of flattened, tabular, glassy, parallel-growth doubly terminated TWISTED crystals with a FADEN or "string" running down the length of the specimen! Portions of the very glassy, lustrous crystals are water-clear with others being translucent. The side cars on one side, especially the angled 2.4 cm doubly terminated crystal really add pizzazz to this exceptional and very rare style Swiss quartz. Complete all-around and nearly pristine. A few trivial wilbers on the upper terminations and a couple of barely noticeable broken tips on the bottom are noted, but certainly have negligible impact to the quality and importance of this piece. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5574 and acquired from Al McGuinness in the late 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A very rare, perhaps unique Swiss quartz.
