Item Description

Sculptural, branching tree-like ribbons of larger second generation scintillating, gemmy, emerald-green uvarovite garnet crystals really sparkle on the smaller lighter green first generation crystals covering the massive chromite ore matrix. The piece is from the Type Locality in Russia - the Saranovskii Mine in the Urals. Uvarovite is the uncommon calcium chromium garnet group endmember. As with most such specimens brought out in the 1990s, the back has been sawed to enhance the display quality. Specimens of this quality haven't been available since the early 1990s, except for a few old lots resurfacing. A fine, really gorgeous piece.
